Panasonic introduced a 3.5-lb, 1,200 lumen projectors with its PT-LM1U SVGA LCD projector, with an estimated price of U.S. $999.

"The PT-LM1U has the ease-of-use, time-saving, and theft deterrence features customers desire; plus it's ultra light, bright, and economically priced," said Steve Abend, director, Panasonic Broadcast's Presentations Systems Group. "With its low cost of ownership, the PT-LM1U delivers superb value for cost-conscious professionals, from the mobile road warrior to small-to-mid size businesses, from corporate training and sales and marketing managers to the first-time user."

Due to its 130 UHM lamp, the PT-LM1U is said to produce high contrast (400:1 ratio) images at an 800 x 600 native SVGA resolution (while providing advanced resizing technology to support UXGA). The projector's lamp brightness can be adjusted to optimize on-screen imaging, and for darker scenes, automatically lower the brightness to produce deeper blacks, and make light areas "pop out," according to the company

The PT-LM1U features plug-and-play functions, including one-touch auto set-up with vertical and horizontal Digital Keystone Correction, Speed Start, Direct Power Off, and Auto Power Off functions. The projector is also outfitted with anti-theft functions including a security lock, user password protection, control panel lock, and text superimposing.

The projector is HDTV compatible and is said to automatically resize 1080i and 720p images for 16:9 wide-aspect display; 480p, 480I, and 576i component video signals as S-Video can also be displayed in either 4:3 or 16:9.
