Nextel Communications, Inc. (Reston, VA, U.S.), Nextel Partners, (Kirkland, WA, U.S.), and Motorola (location?) introduced the Motorola i305, an all-weather mobile phone, enabled with GPS. Designed with a focus on durability, the phone is said to resist dust, shock, vibration, and extreme weather. The phone is reportedly resistant to blowing rain, humidity, and salt fog, and can withstand temperatures ranging from 14°F to 248°F.

The handset features a rubber encasing and sculpted grip, as well as a brushed chrome lens guard. The interior lining and seals are said to protect against exposure to rain, sleet, and snow intrusion.

"Nextel continues to remain focused on providing communication tools for customers in the industrial sector that are designed to help them be more productive in both their business and personal lives," said Blair Kutrow, vice president, product management, Nextel. "The i305 is ideal for individuals who require a rugged phone, yet still demand the latest mobile technology and enhanced features and services they have come to expect from Nextel."

The Motorola i305 also features the digital cellular service and e-mail and text messaging services. The Motorola i305 is also speakerphone-capable and offers assignable ring tones and a 600-entry phonebook.
