Cell-phone maker Motorola Inc. (Schaumburg, IL, U.S.) may be late to the camera phone party, but the company is counting on the debut of its smallest, lightest and lowest cost model to capture market share in the hottest part of the market.

Dubbed its "camera to the masses," Motorola's C550 is shipping now to Europe and Asia, sporting an integrated digital camera, color display and other features. Motorola also introduced five other models this week.

Succeeding with the low-cost camera phone, which will carry a wholesale price of $135 to $150 but may be offered free by operators—is crucial to Motorola's plans to boost its share of the global handset market, company executives said. (Reuters)
