U.S. DVD Sales Continue to Rise in October Nov 12, 2003

With the holidays just around the corner, U.S. manufacturer-to-dealer sales of DVD products continued to increase during October, according to figures by the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA). Year-to-date sales for both DVD players and TV/DVD combinations are rising significantly as consumers continue to opt for digital video products over analog.

Factory-to-dealer sales of stand-alone DVD players reached nearly 2.5 million units for the month of October - an increase of 46 percent, compared to the same period in 2002. Sales of TV/DVD combinations increased 242 percent over October 2002 with sales of 107,656 units.

Year-to-date sales remain strong with totals for stand-alone DVD players up 25 percent compared to 2002, with more than 15 million units. TV/DVD combination year-to-date sales now total more than 1.1 million units, representing an increase of 254 percent, compared to the same period in 2002.
