Shindaiwa Inc. Recalls Hedge Trimmers Oct 31, 2003

In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Shindaiwa Inc. of Tualatin, OR, U.S., has recalled 59,200 professional hedge trimmers.

According to the company, the fuel cap on the hedge trimmers can leak, posing a fire and burn hazard. No injuries or incidents have been reported.

The recalled products have red engine covers, a red fuel cap, and a label on the recoil starter that reads "Professional Shindaiwa". The recall includes all model DH 230/231 and HT 230/231 with serial numbers up to 3080000. The serial numbers are printed on a nameplate on the engine cover.

The outdoor appliances were sold at Shindaiwa dealers nationwide from August 1997 to August 2003 for between U.S. $370 and $450 depending on the model. The recalled items were manufactured in Japan.

Consumers were advised to stop using the hedge trimmer and return the red fuel cap to the dealer for a replacement cap.
