Vacuum Shipments Peak for Third Month in a Row Oct 30, 2003

U.S. manufacturers’ domestic shipments of full-sized vacuum cleaners hit their third consecutive monthly peak in September, up 4.3 percent to 1,778,919 units. The year to date figure grew to 14,868,761 machines, an increase of 1.7 percent. Last year was the industry’s largest at 19,746,901 uprights, canisters, and stick vacuums.

The figures include another early-year adjustment by the Vacuum Cleaner Manufacturers Association. After 4 months of substantial declines, VCMA says the industry appears to have corrected itself with 4 months of increases. The previous September standard was 1,705,155 units in 2002. Likewise, this was the biggest third quarter at 5,231,124 vacuums.
