Indonesian TV, Appliance Sales Down Sep 29, 2003

Sales of color TV set in Indonesia dropped 15 percent month-on-month to 233,750 units in August, the Electronic Marketer Club (EMC) said.

According to EMC data, a slump has hit the overall household electronics products market, which includes refrigerators, air-conditioners, and TVs. Washing machines were the only category to record sales growth for the period, with 4.5-percent increase.

EMC said the decline was caused by market saturation.

It said the sales of TVs recorded the steepest drop after hitting a 7-month record of 269,750 in July. Year-on-year, however, TV sales grew by 6.8 percent to 1.9 million units in the first 8 months of this year, it added. (Asia Pulse, Antara)
