Sharp Files Patent Suit Against AU Optronics Sep 25, 2003

Sharp Corp. has filed a complaint in a California, U.S. court, alleging that Taiwan-based AU Optronics Corp. violated the Japanese firm's patent on liquid crystal products (LCD), a Sharp spokesman said.

Sharp filed the patent infringement action with a court in San Jose on Sept. 17, said the company spokesman.

The Taiwanese company has been providing its LCDs to personal computer makers in the U.S., violating Sharp's thin film transistor- LCD intellectual property rights, he said. However, details on the AU products subject to the violation were not immediately available, he said.

AU said that the company hadn't received any documents related to the lawsuit. (Dow Jones)
