Microsoft, Japan Firms To Tie Up In Software Development Sep 25, 2003

Microsoft Corp. and a Japanese software consortium comprising electronics makers and other companies said they will jointly develop Microsoft's Windows CE .NET operating system.

The tie-up is aimed at making Microsoft software, mainly for electronic products, compatible with the consortium's T-Engine platform.

The platform is based on the Japanese-made "Tron" operating system, which is used in mobile communication devices and home appliances.

The consortium, called T-Engine Forum, was set up in 2002 to promote Tron. NEC Corp., Fujitsu Ltd., and Mitsubishi Electric Corp. are part of the consortium.
