Sony Corp. and NEC Corp. of Japan plan to hire about 30-percent less new graduates next spring than they did this spring, company officials said. The move is designed to cut labor costs, as major Japanese electronics companies are en route to an earnings recovery, they said.

Sony plans to hire about 300 new graduates next spring, compared with about 500 each in the past three years, a Sony official said. NEC intends to hire about 500 new graduates next spring, down by 250 from this spring, an NEC official said. (Kyodo News)
