Whirlpool® Home Appliances today on Monday the kickoff of its second-annual AccuBake Unique Cake Contest, a search for America's classic and unusual family cake recipes.
Elizabeth Kisch of Dayton, OH, U.S. was the winner of last year’s contest. Her Chocolate Coffee Toffee cake was selected from the more than 400 entries submitted. Other finalists included a Pina Colada Star cake, Tomato Soup cake and an Old Fashioned Root Beer Float cake.
"The recipes submitted last year were exactly what we were looking for," said pastry chef Gale Gand, who serves as the lead judge of the contest. "People make cakes for all kinds of reasons and the recipes are perfected over the years. The stories behind each cake were so unique and interesting-I'm sure this year will be no different."
Contestants can send their cake recipes, photographs, and the stories behind them to Whirlpool via mail, email, or through the company web site. The deadline for entries is Oct. 31, 2003, and the top-10 finalists will be asked to participate in a cake-off in Atlanta Nov. 24-25, 2003. Each finalist will receive a Whirlpool Accubake range, and the contest winner will also receive U.S. $5,000.
