Nippon Steel Corp said it would aim to recover 70 percent of normal output in about a week at its Nagoya plant, where operations were halted after a gas tank explosion and fire.

Nippon Steel is Japan's largest steel maker by crude steel output and the Nagoya plant is its third-biggest, with a production capacity of 5.9 million tons of steel products a year. It is also the most productive of Nippon Steel's plants in high-quality surface-treated steel sheet.

A spokesman for Nippon Steel said the company wants to bring back output to 70 percent of normal levels in about a week. He also said some facilities at the plant have already resumed operations, although the main facilities are still shut. (Reuters)
