Medtronic Appoints New Senior Executive Aug 22, 2003

Medtronic, Inc., a worldwide medical technology company, announced the appointment of Jean-Luc Butel as senior vice president and president, Asia/Pacific, effective Aug. 21, 2003. Mr. Butel will be based in Tokyo, Japan and serve as a member of the company's executive committee, reporting directly to Art Collins, Medtronic chairman and chief executive officer.

Mr. Butel joins Medtronic from Johnson & Johnson, where, since 1999, he has been president of Independence Technology, organizing and building a workforce and technology platform focused on the development of sophisticated wheelchairs and other mobility-enhancing systems.
