Sales of DVD Products Continue to Stimulate Growth of Video Category Aug 20, 2003

Digital video products such as TV/DVD combinations and DVD players have again produced increases in video category sales for the month of July, according to figures by the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA).

During July, factory-to-dealer sales of TV/DVD combinations increased by 84 percent to more than 96,912 units. Stand-alone DVD player sales reached 999,508 units for the month, representing an increase of 4 percent compared to the same period in 2002. The increases among DVD product sales during July have helped boost year-to-date totals as well, according to CEA. Year-to-date shipments of stand-alone DVD players now total 8.8 million units—an increase of 21 percent over 2002. So far this year, total factory-to-dealer sales of TV/DVD combinations are up 233 percent with 753,216 units.
