CEA Survey Reveals Most Popular Consumer Electronics Accessories

In a survey released in June, the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA) identified the top consumer electronics accessories for home audio and video, computer, wireless, and gaming products. According to CEA, accessories represented an estimated U.S. $6.5 billion industry for manufacturers in 2002, and are expected to exceed $7 billion in revenues this year.*

In the following categories, consumers reveal the top accessories that can be found in consumer households. The survey also ranked the products most likely to be purchased in the next two years.

Home Audio and Video

  • 68 percent - TV stands or entertainment centers
  • 67 percent - Speakers for TV
  • 66 percent - Universal remote controls

  • 63 percent - Computer desks or workstations

  • 56 percent - Keyboard cleaners
  • 53 percent - Wireless mouse
  • 52 percent - Wireless keyboard

    Wireless
  • 57 percent - Battery re-chargers
  • 54 percent - Batteries
  • 51 percent - Cigarette lighter adapters

    Future Purchase Plans:
  • 54 percent - Batteries
  • 52 percent - Hands-free headsets

    Gaming
  • 33 percent - Memory cards for video game systems
  • 28 percent - Joysticks

  • 38 percent - Portable game cases

  • 36 percent - Memory cards
  • 36 percent - Video game system cases
  • 36 percent - Game pads

    The quantitative study for the CE Accessories Ownership & Market Potential study was administered via telephone interview to a random national sample of 1,000 U.S. adults during May 2003.
