Taiwan's Kaohsiung Zone Becomes Important LCD Production Base Aug 6, 2003

The Kaohsiung Export Processing Zone (KEPZ) has gradually become an important base for manufacturing liquid crystal display (LCD) and its related products, an official of the Export Processing Zone Administration said Tuesday.

After many years of efforts to develop itself into an ideal production base for LCD and its related industries, the KEPZ has been favored by many investors, the official said.

LCD and its related industries invested NT$1.21 billion (U.S. $35.2 million) in the zone in 2002. The same kind of investors spent NT$654 million in new projects and NT$3.13 billion in expanding their production facilities in the zone in the first half of this year.

Business revenues received by the LCD and related industries in the zone amounted to NT$47.77 billion in 2002 and NT$20.41 billion in the first half of this year, the official said. (Asia Pulse)
