The Canadian Appliance Manufacturers Association (CAMA) announced Thursday that microwave oven sales are up 17.7 percent so far this year, with 423,487units sold in the first and second quarters combined. CAMA forecasts that Canadians will continue to opt for the convenience of this appliance throughout the year, resulting in a total of 890,000 microwave ovens shipped in 2003.
Total appliance industry sales are also solid, up 3.4 percent, with a total of 2,205,004 units sold in the first and second quarters combined. CAMA forecasts the industry will sell a total of 4,644,000 refrigerators, electric and gas ranges, automatic washers, electric and gas dryers, dishwashers, cooktops, and microwave ovens shipped in 2003.
