Sanyo Appoints Former Philippine President Jun 30, 2003

Sanyo Electric Co. shareholders approved the resignation of former Philippine President Corazon Aquino as an outside board member at a general shareholders' meeting on Friday.

The Japanese appliance maker said that after the meeting, the company's board members approved Ms. Aquino's appointment as a corporate senior adviser to Sanyo.

The company said Ms. Aquino has made various contributions to the company since joining the board in June 1999, such as giving advice from a woman's perspective on household electronic appliances.

"In the process of product development, I made proposals on concepts that are friendly toward women, and I am thankful they were accepted," Ms. Aquino said at the meeting. "I will do my utmost as an adviser from now on." (The Japan Times)
