Tatung Integrates Pixelworks ICs into Plasma Televisions Jul 30, 2003

Pixelworks, Inc., a provider of system-on-chip ICs for the advanced display market, announced that Tatung, a Taiwan-based manufacturer of electronics, home appliances, and industrial equipment, is using Pixelworks ImageProcessor ICs in a new line of plasma displays (PDPs) for the consumer television market.

The four new PDPs are reportedly the latest advanced displays developed under Tatung's New Displays product initiative targeting the fast growing flat panel display market. According to Pixelworks, its ImageProcessor Architecture powers the complete line of Tatung's new plasma displays, which includes 42-in, 46-in, 50-in, and 63-in models. The 63-in PDP is reportedly one of the largest plasma displays available through consumer electronics retail channels. The company reports that its ImageProcessor system-on-chip ICs help the PDPs deliver outstanding image quality and compatibility with a wide range of standard and high definition video sources. According to the company, its scaling technology automatically senses incoming standard and high definition video signals and automatically configures the display to produce the best possible image.
