Maytag Announces New Ol' Lonely; Actor Gordon Jump to Retire Jul 30, 2003

Maytag Appliances announced that Hardy Rawls, a veteran character actor and a familiar face, will be the new Ol' Lonely(r), the Maytag(r) Repairman, one of America's most well-known and loved advertising spokespersons.

Gordon Jump, the actor who has played the Maytag Repairman since 1988, will retire from his role at the end of the year. Mark Devine, the actor who portrays Ol' Lonely's sidekick, the apprentice, will continue in that role. Mr. Rawls, who has more than 25 years of acting experience, was chosen after an extensive nationwide search. Best known for his work playing the father in Nickelodeon's Pete and Pete, he has appeared on numerous episodic shows and sitcoms including Ed, Law and Order, and Judging Amy. He will don the Maytag Repairman's uniform in upcoming public appearances and advertising.
