Dell increased its lead as the most preferred provider of Intel-based servers in the U.S. tes from the same quarter a year ago, according to preliminary data released recently by industry analyst firm Gartner Inc.
The data show that Dell has generated double-digit growth year-over-year in the U.S. for the sixth consecutive quarter, while its nearest competitors experienced erratic growth or declines over the same period. On a year-over-year basis worldwide, this marks the 22nd consecutive quarter that Dell has seen double-digit growth for its server business, according to Gartner.
For the second quarter of 2003, Dell's Intel-based server business grew 32.9 percent worldwide from the year ago quarter, faster than any of the top ten server providers and more than double the leading vendor. Since the year ago quarter, Dell's momentum has enabled it to increase its lead in the U.S. Intel server market by an additional two-and-a-half percentage points and narrow the gap with the leading worldwide vendor by more than three percentage points.
"The trend is clear: more customers around the world prefer a direct relationship with Dell and are deploying Intel-based PowerEdge servers at a faster rate than those from any other top ten server company," said Jeff Clarke, senior vice president, Dell Product Group.
