U.S. manufacturers’ shipments of full-sized vacuum cleaners rebounded in June after 4 months of declines averaging 9.9 percent. Last month, 1,664,253 uprights, canisters, and stick vacs moved, up 19.0 percent from 1,398,872 units a year ago. The two previous Junes were down 9.2 and 11.4 percent, respectively, from the month’s standard, 1,737,799 units in 2000.
After January this year was up 2.2 percent, ensuing consecutive declines were 12.6, 9.4, 6.6, and 10.9 percent. The improvement in June lowered the deficit for the year to date from 7.8 to 4.1 percent. In 6 months, 9,535,636 units shipped. For the quarter, the decline was 0.3 percent to 4,604,780.
