Virginia, U.S.-based Hamilton-Beach/Proctor-Silex is recalling 2.7 million slow cookers because they pose a burn hazard.

The company of Glen Allen, VA has received about 4,700 reports of handles breaking off the base of the pots, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission said. The company has had two reports of consumers who needed medical attention for burns.

The recalled slow cookers are round or oval and were sold in white or print designs. They have the Hamilton Beach and Proctor-Silex brand-name printed on the front of the base unit and series codes A through D printed on the bottom along with the model number.

The recall includes the following model numbers: 33390, 33475, 33575, 33590, 33675, 33690, 33725, 33850, 33860, 33680, 33320, 33320FD, 33325, 33375, 33380, 33625A.

The slow cookers were sold at discount department stores nationwide from January 1999 to December 2002 for between U.S. $15 to $45.

Consumers should contact the company for a replacement. They can contact Hamilton Beach at 1-800-429-6363 or visit their Web site at www.hamiltonbeach.com or www.proctor-silex.com for more information.
