Vent-A-Hood, the company that created the modern residential range hood, is celebrating its 70th anniversary. Founded in 1933, the company was started in Dallas, TX, U.S. by Carr P. Collins, Sr., who later patented the first residential range hood in 1937 and recruited his nephew, Miles Woodall, Jr., to manage the company. Vent-A-Hood began as a family-owned and operated business and remains so to this day. From a 250-sq-ft dirt floor shed making range hoods one at a time as they were ordered, the company has grown into a 100,000-sq-ft facility in the suburbs of Dallas and has plans to add another 500,000-sq-ft this year. The company's signaure product is its Magic Lung centrifugal blower system that is said to remove 99 percent of all grease, smoke, and odors.
