Wal-Mart Stands By Sales Targets Mar 11, 2003

Wal-Mart Stores Inc. is maintaining its March and April sales forecasts and said it was well positioned for the spring season.
The company said it still expects March sales at stores open at least a year to show a percentage increase in the low-single dig its. For April, it expects same-store sales to be up in the high-single digits. Like many other retailers, Wal-Mart said a late Easter this year would push demand into April instead of March. Easter falls on April 20 this year, about 3 weeks later than last year. Wal-Mart said its stores were ready to begin selling spring merchandise, and demand for those items was strong in areas where warm weather has arrived. The best-selling categories in the latest week included electronics, food, and pet supplies. (Reuters)
