Docomo and Samsung Enter Joint Venture Mar 11, 2003

NTT DoCoMo Inc., a Japanese mobile-phone company, and Samsung Electronics Co., a Korean cell phone make,r said they would jointly develop phones for DoCoMo's i-mode wireless service in Europe. DoCoMo hopes to attract more European customers by widening th e choice of phones from the current two, a DoCoMo spokeswoman said. Since i-mode's European debut in March last year, only NEC Corp. and Toshiba Corp. have sold phones, she said. DoCoMo is offering its i-mode Internet platform to customers in Belgium, France, Germany, the Netherlands, and Taiwan through the wireless networks of its partners.The service allows mobile-phone users to send e-mail, view specially designed Web sites and access other services.
