In 2002, conumers continued to demonstrate strong demand for highly efficient condensing furnaces, according to the Gas Appliance Manufacturers Association (GAMA). Statistics from GAMA, showed that 77.8 percent of shipments had Annual Fuel Utilization Efficiency ratings of 88 percent or higher. This represents more than 890,000 condensing furnaces, up from 853,000 in 2001. All gas warm air central furnaces with the 88 percent or higher rating are of condensing design, and nearly all sport the U.S. Government's Energy Star label.
