Domestic shipments of PCs fell for the second straight year in Japan in 2002, the first back-to-back declines since 1984, Gartner Inc. said. PC makers shipped 11.53-million units, a 10.4-percent slide after a 2.8-percent drop in 2001, as companies cut equipment outlays and as consumers held off upgrading home computers. Gartner expects Japanese shipments to rise 3.2 percent in 2003. (New York Times)
