Menards reportedly has filed a lawsuit against Home Depot, alleging misuse of some of its ads by Home Depot, according to a report in the Minneapolis Star Tribune.

In a lawsuit filed Wednesday in U.S. District Court in Minneapolis, MN, U.S. Menards alleges that Home Depot Inc. stores in Apple Valley and Elk River made copies of its New Year's advertising, removed some — but not all — uses of the Menards name and posted the ads for a competing sale.

The newspaper reported that the Eau Claire, WI, U.S.-based Menards wants Home Depot to stop using its ads, and return profits the Atlanta-based chain earned from any misuse of its trademarks.
