The state of Indiana, U.S. is receiving a U.S. $1.5 million grant from the U.S. Department of Energy. Whirlpool Corp. will receive a $1.3 million of the grant, most of which will support a new manufacturing process for refrigerators produced at Whirlpool's Evansville, IN, U.S. operations. The company employs about 2,500 people in the Evansville area.
The remaining $200,000 will help homeowners replace old refrigerators with Whirlpool's new Energy Star models. Whirlpool plans to apply for state grants to train workers in the new technology. (Associated Press)
