Tilia International, Inc. Files Patent Infringment Lawsuit Against the Rival Company Jan 30, 2003

Tilia International, Inc., maker of FoodSaverR and
the leader in home vacuum packaging, announced that it has filed a patent infringement action in the United States District Court for the Northern District of California, San Francisco Division against The Rival Company for using Tilia's patented channel bag technology (U.S. Patent No. RE 34,929) without a license.

The complaint alleges that The Rival Company is infringing
Tilia's patent for "Plastic Bag(s) for Vacuum Sealing". Tilia seeks damages and injunctive relief against further infringement. Tilia has asserted that Rival's infringement is willful and deliberate, entitling Tilia to treble damages and attorneys' fees.

"We will not tolerate any patent infringement by Rival or any other competitor. Tilia has invested heavily over the years in developing and implementing our proprietary technology, and we're very serious about protecting it," said Linda S. Graebner, President and CEO of Tilia. "This is the second patent infringement action that we've filed this month. We will protect our patents to the full extent of the law."
