Olympus Pretax Profits Up 119.9 Percent Nov 19, 2002

Olympus Optical Co. said its group net profit more than doubled over a year ago to 13.39 billion yen (U.S. $110.6 million)in the first half of fiscal 2002 due chiefly to spirited sales of its endoscopic video systems, digital cameras and the weaker yen. In the April-September period, Olympus' group pretax profit also jumped 119.9 percent to 26.05 billion yen ($215.2 million). Sales grew 4.8 percent to 259.87 billion yen ($2.1 billion). (Kyodo News)
