Brother Posts Record Profits Nov 18, 2002

Brother Industries Ltd. said it registered record operating, pretax, and net profits on a group basis in the April-September first half of fiscal 2002 due to brisk sales of telecommunications equipment and printers. The maker of sewing machines and communications devices said it posted a record group net profit of 11.61 billion yen (U.S. $96.4 million) in the first half in a turnaround from a loss of 5.41 billion yen ($44.9 million) a year earlier, and a record pretax profit of 19.27 billion yen ($160 million), up 171.3 percent.
