Hitachi Ltd and NEC Corp plan to invest a total of 44 billion yen (U.S. $365.3 million) in their dynamic random access memory (DRAM) chip production joint venture, company officials said. The extra capital injection into Elpida Memory Inc is designed to finance construction of a plant in Higashi-Hiroshima, Hiroshima Prefecture, in Japan which is due to start volume production next January, and help make up for cumulative losses, they said.
