Thomson CEO Says Port Dispute Still Slowing Deliveries

French consumer electronics maker Thomson said that the U.S. port dispute was still hampering deliveries of its products to U.S. electronics retail chains ahead of the crucial holidays. "The situation is still messy. Last week we still had 850 containers unloaded. We think it could have an impact on sales and EBIT (earnings before interest and tax), but it will not be catastrophic," said CEO Charles Dehelly.

The dispute with workers in U.S. ports is still not completely resolved, although many employees are back at work. Thomson warned several weeks ago that the port dispute was causing trouble. If deliveries to retail chains have not taken place before a certain date, usually end-November or early December, these shops may cancel orders. Thomson was looking at alternative delivery methods via air or Mexican and Canadian ports, Mr. Dehelly said. (Reuters)
