Venture firm tmsuk Co. and Sanyo Electric Co. said they have jointly developed a dinosaur-shaped house-sitting robot and will take orders for an initial 50 units starting Dec 1. The robot, named Banryu, will let an owner check what is happening in his or her house from outside via personal handy-phone system (PHS), according to the companies.

It will also send an alarm to a PHS handset if it detects any smoke with a sensor, they said. The robot walks at a speed of 15 m per min and can climb up steps up to 15 cm high. The companies said they plan to launch full sales of the robot at the end of next year. (Kyodo News)
