Japan's Home Appliance Sales Fall Oct 28, 2002

Sales of home electrical appliances at big retailers came to 177.88 billion yen (U.S. $1.4 billion) in September, down 1.94 percent from a year earlier after rising in August for the first time in 17 months, the Nippon Electric Big-Stores Association said.

The association said sales of television sets rose 6.88 percent to 15.73 billion yen ($126.7 million), up for the sixth consecutive month, bolstered by continued strong performance of TVs with plasma-display panels and liquid-crystal displays. (Kyodo News)
