Snapper, Inc., a leading producer of premium-priced power lawnmowers, garden tillers, and snow throwers, said yesterday that substantially all of its assets and certain of its liabilities were acquired from its parent, Metromedia International Group, Inc. by Simplicity Manufacturing, Inc.

Simplicity is a Port Washington, WI, U.S.-based producer of lawn and garden equipment for residential and commercial markets.

"The joining of the Snapper business with the Simplicity Manufacturing family should prove beneficial for Snapper dealers, customers, and employees," said Snapper President and CEO Robin Chamberlain.

"We are pleased to become part of the Simplicity Manufacturing team. This is a 'win-win' situation, as Simplicity plans to invest in the business, grow Snapper with new products and promotions, while keeping the McDonough plant open for manufacturing," added Shane Sumners, Senior vice president - operations & engineering and chief operating officer of Snapper, Inc.

"The acquisition of Snapper fits well into our strategy of offering premium quality residential and commercial lawn and garden equipment exclusively through independent dealers," added Jim Wier, president and chief executive officer of Simplicity Manufacturing, Inc. "The fit between the two companies in terms of product mix and distribution will allow us to bring more premium quality products to a greater number of customers globally."

Snapper will continue to operate as a stand-alone company. Robin Chamberlain has chosen to pursue other business opportunities. Shane Sumners will continue with the company as president and chief operating officer.

Simplicity said it plans to renew Snapper's commitment as part of The Dealer Lineâ„¢, taking full advantage of the retail strength of 7,500 dealers around the world.
