Hoover Says Cycle of Layoffs Is Complete Jun 20, 2003

Hoover has said that it completed a round of staff reductions related to an edict from the parent Maytag Corp. for company-wide cost savings. Tom Briatico, who moved from Maytag’s Dixie-Narco vending-machine division to become president here May 1, described the remaining work force as "lean, mean, and agile." He and Annette Bravard, brought in from Maytag as vice president of marketing, give Hoover fresh eyes to evaluate the business, he told HFN.

One of Mr. Briatico's priorities is to retain production in this country. "I think 'Made in the USA' is powerful and I want to take advantage," he said.

Dave Baker, named head of a new Diversified Products Division, will look as well at corporate synergies and business opportunities, which potentially could add significantly to the top line, said Mr. Briatico. (HFN)
