John Mayberry, chair of the Board and CEO of Dofasco Inc. has been elected chairman of the International Iron and Steel Institute (IISI), the world organization for the steel industry. Having acted as vice chairman of IISI for 2 years and been a director since 1992, Mr. Mayberry will serve as IISI Chairman until October 2003.
The IISI is based in Brussels, Belgium. Its member steel companies produce steel in over 50 countries and account for the majority of world steel production. IISI member companies are both private and state-owned.
Mr. Mayberry joined Dofasco in 1967. Following a 20-year career in sales and marketing, he was appointed vice president and Works Manager in 1987, Executive vice president in 1989, and president and CEO in 1993. In May 2002, he was appointed to his present position.
Throughout his career, Mr. Mayberry has participated in numerous industry-related associations. In addition to being chairman and a director of the IISI, he is also the chairman and a director of the American Iron and Steel Institute, a director of the Canadian Steel Producers' Association, and a director of the Canadian Steel Trade and Employment Congress.
Mr. Mayberry also holds directorships with the Bank of Nova Scotia, Decoma International Inc., TradePort International Corporation and the Canadian Council of Chief Executives.
