Wal-Mart Same-Store Sales Rise in September Oct 11, 2002

Wal-Mart Stores Inc. said September sales gains at stores open
at least a year slowed to 3.3 percent as shoppers curbed spending
amid a weak economy and job cuts. Same-store sales rose 3.6 percent at the Wal-Mart chain and 1.6 percent at Sam's Club warehouses. The company had lowered its forecast to a gain of as much as 4 percent from 6 percent. October sales will also be sluggish, the discounter said. This is the third straight month Wal-Mart missed its original estimate. (Bloomberg News)
