Whirlpool® Home Appliances announced today the kickoff of its first-ever AccuBake Unique Cake Contest, a search for America's classic and unusual family cake recipes. Whirlpool says that its industry research indicates that cakes are one of the most popular recipes for families to pass along from one generation to the next.
"Nothing brings out the love more than baking a cake for someone special," said world renowned pastry chef Gale Gand, who is serving as a judge for the contest. "The occasion really doesn't matter -- birthday, anniversary, holiday? There are just so many unique cake recipes out there and families are very passionate about them."
"We know there are some interesting cake recipes out there that have equally unique stories and people behind them," said Charles Martin, manager of Whirlpool cooking appliances. "Entering this contest means there is a cake recipe in your family unique enough that the entire country would be interested in knowing how and why you make it, as well as the ingredients that help it taste so good."
To enter the contest, consumers are being asked to send their cake recipes, photographs, and the stories behind them. The deadline for entries is Nov. 7, 2002. The top-10 finalists will be asked to participate in a cake-off in Atlanta, GA, U.S. on Dec. 11, 2002 and each one will receive a Whirlpool AccuBake range. The contest winner will also receive U.S. $10,000.
