A jury in Minnesota, U.S. awarded U.S. $30 million to Honeywell International Ltd. in a patent infringement case against consumer electronics maker Victor Co. of Japan Ltd., or JVC.
Honeywell claimed JVC used its auto focus camera technology in an unauthorized manner, Honeywell spokesman Richard Silverman said. Honeywell filed a federal lawsuit against the company in 1999 in U.S. District Court in Minnesota.
A spokesman for JVC in the U.S., Terry Shea, said the jury award does not change the company's position that it has not infringed on any Honeywell patents. "We are still exploring our options in the case," Mr. Shea said.
Honeywell invented auto focus for still photography and video cameras in 1978, and licensed the technology throughout the industry.
"We are pleased that the jury has recognized Honeywell's right to obtain a fair return on our pioneering technology," Mr. Silverman said. (Reuters) Back
