ASHRAE Announces Web-Based Database Jun 10, 2003

The American Society of Heating, Refrigerating, and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) announced yesterday that it has approved funding for research to develop an interactive web-based database that will provide current information on maintenance costs and service life of typical HVAC components and systems.

According to a press release, ASHRAE 1237-TRP, Interactive Web-Based Owning and Operating Cost Database, will take an estimated 12 months and U.S. $95,000 to complete. Barry Abramson, P.E., Servidyne Systems, LLC, Atlanta, GA, U.S., will direct the research project. According to ASHRAE, researchers are to collect and validate at least 150 data sets of HVAC equipment service life and maintenance cost data; develop a database; develop an Internet interface for the database where users can contribute their own data; and tabulate the data for inclusion into the ASHRAE Handbook.
