LG.Phillips LCD said yesterday that it has maintained the world’s top slot for five months in a row, solidifying its position in the fast-evolving flat-panel displaying market.
The company sold a total of 1.25 million units in February, outpacing other rivals, LG said, citing the latest survey released by Display Search.
The flat-panel maker said its monitor products went up 8 percent in February, while notebook panels jumped 12 percent and TV panels up 8 percent.
In addition to the across-the-board jump in sales, LG also witnessed a sharp increase in the January-February period, whose sales reached 2.4 million units. The performance is higher than expected, considering that the company sold 2.3 million units in the first quarter of last year.
The company said that its fifth-generation—5G—production line is fast stabilizing, helping reduce production costs. The 5G line for 1100mm x 1250mm panel production is in full swing, expanding the company’s overall output.
According to Display Search, all seven major flat-panel makers in Korea and Taiwan—except for LG.Phillips—saw their February sales decline. As a result, the total sales output in February edged down 3 percent compared to the previous month.
LG said that it will increase the monthly production capacity at its production line No. 5 from current 30,000 units to 60,000 units by the end of the year.
