Trane, a global HVAC brand of Ingersoll Rand, enhanced its Optimus helical rotary water-cooled chiller with an Adaptive Frequency drive (AFD).
The AFD adjusts motor speed based on demand to reduce energy consumption and thus costs. The chillers have cooling capacities from 150 to 430 tons and are designed to be economical cooling solutions for high-occupancy schools, hospitals, hotels, and similar buildings.
Rolf Paeper, applied products business leader at Trane, said the water-cooled chiller delivers up to 39% better energy efficiency than is required by the ASHRAE 90.1 standard. “That level of efficiency surpasses a number of similarly sized competing centrifugal chillers, making it a cost-effective solution."
