Toshiba Corporation's Lifestyle Products & Services segment saw its white goods (major appliances) business record notably higher operating income, due to successes in efforts to strengthen product lines and measures to deal with the weaker yen.
Toshiba's Lifestyle Products & Services segment saw a sales decrease from its Visual Products business, which includes LCD TVs. The PC business saw higher sales, especially in Japan.
The Lifestyle Products & Services segment as a whole saw a considerable improvement in operating income.
Net sales were 289.0 billion yen (approx US$2.8 billion), up 3% from the first quarter of the previous fiscal year. An operating loss of 3.3 billion was still up 21.6 billion from the same quarter in the previous year.
Toshiba Corp. as a whole had 1Q sales of 1,408.0 billion yen, an increase of 36.9 billion yen from 1Q of fiscal year 2013. Operating income was 39.5 billion yen, up 14.4 billion yen from the year-ago period.
