Small appliance maker Helen of Troy Limited agreed to buy a maker of vitamins, minerals and supplements (VMS), Healthy Directions, LLC and its subsidiaries. Helen of Troy will pay approximately $195 million in cash.
Helen of Troy has not operated in the VMS category in the past, but called the Healthy Directions acquisition logical step in its expansion in health and wellness products. It said the VMS company will build on its December 2010 acquisition of Kaz and its December 2011 acquisition of PUR. Kaz markets products such as vaporizers, humidifiers, dehumidifiers, digital and infrared thermometers, blood pressure monitors, air purifiers, heaters, and fans. PUR markets water filtration products such as faucet mount systems and filters, pitcher systems and filters, and refrigerator filters.
