UK home heating equipment maker Baxi welcomed Baroness Verma, Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for the Department of Energy & Climate Change, on a May 29th visit to Baxi's manufacturing facility in Preston. It was an education visit, intended to inform the Baroness about Baxi's campaign to promote more energy efficient home heating in the UK.

Baxi's Hard to Treat Heat campaign supports the roll-out of energy efficient technologies and hopes to help set a pathway for regulatory change. A primary focus is on finding ways for the 10 million non-condensing boilers in British homes to be replaced over the coming years and work with government and industry on accessing the Green Deal Home Improvement Fund.

A recent national survey carried out by Baxi found that 76% of respondents admitted they regularly worry about the cost of heating, and 6% say the worry enough that it actually keeps them up nights.

In fact, the survey found that respondents were more worried about heating costs than about other key financial outlay:
• food, 64%
• car fuel, 50%
• mortgage payments, 17%

"We already know that there are around 10 million inefficient boilers here in the UK and that's why it is so important that we not only continue to develop even better products to encourage replacement, but also ensure the correct support mechanisms are in place, to help make it a reality," said Baxi Marketing Director Andrew Keating.

Commenting on the visit by Baroness Verma, Keating said, "History tells us that changes in the heating sector are most successful when Government and industry work together and that's exactly what we are trying to do now.”

"Households across the country can save money on bills and stay warmer for less by making energy saving improvements to their homes," Baroness Verma said. "The Green Deal is amongst the Government's measures designed to do just that. Seeing Baxi rising to the challenge to tackle Britain's inefficient boiler stock is very much supported by the Government."
