Home Connect, which enables control of different brands of appliances through a single app, was presented by BSH last week at the IFA 2014 Global Press Conference in Belek, Turkey.
Project Leader Dr Claudia Häpp, of Germany-based BSH Bosch und Siemens Hausgeräte GmbH, demonstrates how the solution meets the needs of consumers in their connected, everyday life. She noted that 90% of households have more than one brand of appliance.
Germany alone has more than 36 million smartphone users and the number of appliances that connect online is growing quickly.
The Home Connect website, app, and the first connected appliances from the Bosch and Siemens brand families will be presented at IFA 2014, which takes place Sept. 5-10 in Berlin.
The app will be launched with functions that consumers in BSH market research rated as very important, including the ability to operate different brands of appliances.
Home Connect is conceived as an open platform that will continually develop to offer more services. The app will launch on iPhone and be available for Android in early 2015.
BSH, based in Munich, had 2013 sales of about EUR 10.5 billion and has a workforce of about 50,000 worldwide. It is ranked as the world’s third-largest producer of home appliances. BSH has manufacturing in 40 factories and has a presence in 47 countries.
